2018 School Night for Scouting

Training and Recruiting New Members

In 2017, over 3,500 boys became new Cub Scouts on the statewide sign up day we know as School Night for Scouting! 2018 School Night for Scouting will again be the ONE NIGHT throughout our entire state and parts of Wisconsin and South Dakota where we will be recruiting Cub Scouts at every local elementary school.

Our Goal is to Provide Scouting to More Youth in 2018!

Heroes Star Here! With all packs, troops and crews, which should be participating in their town festivals, parades, celebrations, etc. to show off their unit invite new members to join.

This year, all new Cubs will receive a FREE Cub Scout t-shirt with a glow-in-the-dark logo on the front, and a Superhero landscape on the back. AND, every new Cub Scout will receive a FREE day of Fall Day Camp!

During July and August, all Scouting units should plan to have a presence at their town festival. You can get wrist bands, stickers, trading cards, fliers and even Tiger Cub or Lion Cub costumes for your summer activity or parade float. And the NEW inflatable/portable archery ranges have been a huge attraction!

Just ask your friendly and helpful District Executive!

Get Trained

This is also the time of year for every Cub Scout pack to recruit and train key volunteer leaders for your School Night for Scouting recruitment. September 20 may seem a long way off – but it will be here much sooner than you think.

Make sure someone has attended training, or has met with your District Executive; here are a few reasons why:

  1. So that your pack can earn that “special recognition” for achieving your recruitment goal.
  2. To learn when and where your pack will get their SNFS packets (applications, “Welcome” booklets, fall day camp fliers, and more) and yard signs.
  3. To learn when and where your pack will get their supply of t-shirts and FREE Day Camp coupons which are to be given to all newly recruited Cub Scouts this fall.

Looking ahead to August, all packs should be attending their District Roundtable to pick up their SNFS recruitment packets, yard signs, posters, and other promotional materials.

All packs should also be striving to have a table or some type of presence at school open houses to promote their pack. Use the posters, yard signs, have a tablet or laptop with Cub Camp videos playing or pictures from you pack outings. And whenever someone wants to join, SIGN THEM UP! You don’t have to have them wait until September 20.

Troops and crews should be working closely with packs to support their SNFS rallies on September 20, after all – Cub Scouts are the #1 source of future Boy Scouts and Venturers.
